Step back in time and explore this geological treasure, located 15 minutes out of Carrot River.
The banks of the Carrot River feature walls of shale and shallow waters in late summer, into fall. It was here that 92 million-year-old Big Bert (prehistoric crocodile) was found!
Enjoy the sites and feel free to fossil search. If you find any, contact the Royal Saskatchewan Museum at https://royalsaskmuseum.ca/ or call 306-787-2815
Drive south of Carrot River on Highway 23 for approximately 8 miles; take a left onto the grid and drive 3 miles east. Watch for a small white sign, turn north. Drive along the dirt road one mile and turn left, driving along the grass road to the end. Follow the edge of the bush line to the parking space.
Follow the trail for a short walk to a viewpoint, or further to make your way down the banks. Note that weather and water flow will change accessibility. Wear solid footwear.
