Let's talk picnics! The fun, the nostalgia, the romance…..sigh
Picnics are a great way to enjoy the outdoors and spend quality time with your friends and loved ones. They are also a super fun activity option if you are budgeting time or money!!
Here is a list of our top 5 Saskatchewan's OUTBACK picnic spots, in no particular order, as they are all fantastic
1. Pasquia Regional Park
Just 10 minutes straight south of Carrot River on Highway 23 you will find this gem. With so much green space you will be sure to find the PERFECT spot! There is a hill too so you can take in all the views.
2. The "Shale"
This is a complete surprise and like stepping into a whole new world where you can enjoy walls of shale, babbling river water and fossil hunting! The 92 million year old, prehistoric crocodile, Big Bert was found here! Remember if you find fossils contact the Royal Saskatchewan Museum. You can find a printable PDF map/brochure AT THIS LINK
3. Carrot River Community Square
Carrot River Community Square is 100% the definition of community! You will find it right in the middle of Carrot River on Main Street. This location was developed solely with community support! Enjoy lush grass, shade trees and benches. While there you can read the paving stones and benches and see who has been a part of the square's creation!
4. Rice River
This space can be as adventurous as you make it! While there is a lot of talk about hiking and camping here, you can totally do it as a day trip picnic! It is a bit of a drive but we feel it is totally worth it. There are plenty of rocks to sit on and the sound of the water is incredibly soothing. You will find time passes quickly as you enjoy the area and explore a little! You can find a printable PDF map/brochure AT THIS LINK. If you are not a more seasoned hiker, we encourage you to explore close to the bridge. It is good to know that there is no cellular service there either. Send us your questions; we will happily help you out.
5. Emmons Creek
Emmons Creek is located along the very west side of Carrot River. As you can see the area is grassy and you may wish to bring a blanket. This requires little walking so you can pack all of the good stuff and settle in for a wonderful meal. We recommend going for a later picnic and taking in the beautiful sunset views!
If you are not sure what to pack along, just check out one of Carrot River's local restaurants, the bakery or Co-op, they will help you out!
